Summary and Analysis of Kurunmi by Ola Rotimi

Kujenyo: He is a tactical witchdoctor who plots the diabolical defeat of Ijaiye.

Kurunmi: He is the protagonist and the eponymous character in Kurunmi.  He is the Are-Ona-Kakanfo of Ijaiye, the supporter of tradition. As a warrior, he is stubborn, proud and defiant. He has no respect for coward chiefs and he wants everybody to always agree with him. Although Alafin Atiba makes him the King of Ijaiye, he is more loyal to his tradition than to the Alafin. While Alafin is disloyal to his tradition, Kurunmi on the other hand is disloyal to Alafin Atiba. He does not support the recent change in the Oyo Empire to crown Adelu a King after the death of his father. Hence, he masterminds the gruesome war in the play. In the end, he commits suicide.
